The Story of Our Big Move to Texas

It's been just over a week now since our move to Texas. Marcus and I finally got all of our boxes unpacked yesterday and I again have a camera cord. Our apartment is coming along nicely and it won't be much longer before we're totally settle in. I'll take pictures of the new place once all the final touches are complete.

Now, the moment I'm sure you've all been waiting for...the story of our big move to Texas.

Thursday the 14th Marcus, Tommy, my Mom, our cousin Jay, and myself all worked like crazy to get our moving truck loaded and our California Avenue apartment cleaned. Our best friends Jessica and Abigail from downstairs helped us out and spent the last of our time there with us. As hard as the packing, loading, and cleaning was, saying goodbye to Jess and Abby was much worse. We all bawled when we finally had to say "see ya later". We miss them like crazy.

My mom, myself, and the boys took off early evening to say goodbye to uncle Matt (my brother) and then meet Ben, Annice, and Cole (my other brother, his wife, and my nephew) for dinner. They were kind enough to invite us to go out with them our last night there. After dinner we finally ventured off to our hotel up near the Salt Lake City Airport and settled in for the night.

Not long after we had gone to bed we received a call from my little sister Amelia who was at home in Ephraim. She was freaking out because Marcus and Tommy were supposed to be sleeping there and when she arrived home she couldn't find them anywhere. My mother and I tried calling both of the boys and started panicking when we couldn't get a hold of them. I had just talked to Marcus about an hour ago and he had told me he was heading off to bed. I could not figure out where they could be, but they were very obviously not where I thought they were. Come to find out, a few hours later, they had decided to just start their long drive to Texas straight from Provo rather than sleep in Ephraim and begin early Friday morning. I was happy to know where they were, but worried about them driving without sleeping first.

Friday morning my mother, myself and the boys headed to the airport and flew to Texas. Connor had been dying to fly on the big airplane (it was his 19th flight) but about 15 minutes after take off he was ready to get off. He ended up doing just fine, though, but was incredibly tired during the flight and the remainder of the day. James did perfectly on his first flight and just slept in his Grandma's arms most of the time.

We arrived in Texas early afternoon and Marcus and Tommy joined us just about 6 hours later. They took turns driving and sleeping throughout the whole trip and ended up being very happy they took off early. They had Bevo and Hemi in the truck with them and I couldn't help but laugh imagining those two boys with those two cats for nearly 22 hours. They all made it safely, though, and I sighed my first sigh of relief once they were all here.

Saturday was spent unloading the truck and getting acquainted with our new apartment. Marcus' mother, father, and two of our nephews came to help us out and we very much appreciated them. Connor had a difficult time as he desperately wanted to be involved. He was kind of pulled in every which direction as several different people kept sending him different ways and telling him different things. The poor kid made it through, though, and so did the rest of us.

Well, I could keep writing but I think I covered the basics of the actual move. We are happy to be here and are pleased with our apartment. It is coming together nicely and we are thrilled with all the extra space we have here.

Marcus and I felt very strongly that we needed to move into this apartment complex and so we did. We were left wondering why exactly we felt we should live here(especially since a few things have changed since we've been here...read the above post). As we've talked about it we've discussed several different possibilities. One possible reason became blatantly clear today when we attended our ward for the first time and found out that it is flooded with medical students and their families. What a good opportunity for us to be able to make friends with so many people who are now where we are hoping to be soon. I think we have a lot of good resources around us and we certainly do not feel alone in this area anymore.

So...all is fine with us. We miss Utah...our family, friends, and the life we knew so well. We are enjoying our new Texas adventure...especially being close to Marcus' family. We are adjusting to living here, though, instead of just visiting. We've become so accustomed to how our life worked in Utah and our family relationships there. We're all having to now accustom ourselves to how our life will work here and how our family relationships will work. We are excited for all that is to come, though, and are just ready to get on with it already. So...here we go!

P.S. Here's a few last pictures that really didn't fit into the rest of my post but I wanted to include...my mom and brother with my boys before they flew home. The one with Tommy and James is a once in a lifetime shot as Tommy doesn't hold babies and hadn't held James up until that point. My mom had to trick him into it and I wouldn't take James from him until he smiled for a photo!
